Project Introduction-Empowering Chinese CSOs for a more inclusive society for people with mental health problems

Background
In China, there are currently more than 100 million people with mental health problems, of which 16 million have severe conditions. They have strong needs for community participation and social support, but the severe stigma and discrimination that they and their family members are facing often exclude them from social participation and exposes them to “social death”. The social exclusion and the “revolving door “cycle between long-term hospitalization and isolated life at home also make them particularly vulnerable to illness relapse, disabilities, and poverty.
To change this situation, personalized and comprehensive social support is needed from civil society actors, service providers and government actors.
